Think Notes – an enhanced note taker for WordPress

You know when you’ve done something in WordPress, and you’ve forgotten where you put the CSS, why you’d set the tag on that post to “Geoff”, or what the hell that empty code section was meant to do?

Me too.

So I went on the search and I found Noted! by Kyle Van Deusen, and it’s brilliant. If you want a simple note taking tool, click the link and go and get that one, seriously, it’s great.

But I wanted more!

Noted, with some more bits added

A few days of hacking away, and a lot of help from Claude AI, and “Think Notes” was born! It’s just like Noted, but it has a few enhancements that I really needed, so here they are:

Enhanced editor

The editor used markdown, but I’m in a hurry and it’s 2025, I ain’t got time for no markdown, I just want to click buttons!

So I added the TinyMCE editor which is in WordPress anyway, so why the hell not, eh? Exactly, so I put that in.

You’ll also notice (if you use(d) Noted!) that I’ve added some other bits, more on those…

Global or local notes

Noted! just popped all the notes in one list, which is great and simple, but if I put notes on my plugin page, I probably don’t care to see them on my MemberPress page.

See? Makes sense eh?

So, if you leave the default of “Global bote”, your note will appear everywhere. If you untick it, the URL of the page you’re on will be saved so you’ll only see the note on that page.

Keeps it tidy.

Search the notes!

Yeah, so you forgot what note you made, and you’ve got a lot on the page, so how about instead of scrolling, you can just search through them?

That’d be cool!

View all notes on dashboard

I know, you want to see all your notes on an easy-to-view dashboard, I get ya.

Well, there you go then. An easy-to-view dashboard, just for you!

Add global notes, search ’em, edit ’em, delete ’em, do all that funky stuff.

Add tags!!!

Tag up all your notes so you can filter them in the admin dashboard! Make them easier to find so documenting everything on your site now becomes a breeze!

Export your notes!!!!

The dashboard is even more useful because you can now export your notes!

Yes, add all your notes for a specific thing you’ve been working on, tag them, then use the filter functionality to show just those with the tags and export them to a CSV file!

I don’t know you, you don’t know me, awwwwriiiight?
